You’re in amazing shape. What’s your secret?
I have the worst most boring secret – one hour of cardio and weights everyday, and you can’t take a month off. It’s all about consistency! You have to make it part of your life. If that means getting up early then I do. I do minimum five days a week.
You’re an 80s child; What fashion trends were you into?
I wasn’t really into the big 80s look, because my family wasn’t into it! But I did wear ballet leg warmers over my jeans. That was about it, oh and Spud Mackenzie tee-shirts. And I wasn’t into Madonna, unlike my character Jenna. My favourite movie star was Jodie Foster.
Three things you can’t live without?
My pup who’s called Martha Stewart, pony tail holders, and great lip cream.

You do have great lips, and they look real!
(laughing) I’m the lip specialist, because they’re just big, so I’m very aware of it. I love Nooks, and Crème de la Mer, which I discovered on a movie set. It’s about $60 and it is so fabulous, but the Rose Bud lip balm at a chemist for $4 is just as good.
How did you research your role in Suddenly 30 as Jenna Fink, top New York magazine editor?
Gosh, I talked to a couple of top New York magazine editors about what their day was like, and that was kind of it. I’ve also been in magazine offices so many times that I knew the vibe and the environment.
Your characters end up finding true love. Do you think it’s hard to find true love?
Of course it’s hard to find true love! If it was that easy, there wouldn’t be so many movies or songs about it. What’s so great about Jenna and Matt’s true love in Suddenly 30 is that they have such a great history, knowing each other since they were kids. I just think you’re so lucky if you’re with or married to someone you’ve known for a long time, and grown up with.
Do you believe in ‘The One’?
Not necessarily. I believe there are people that match each other so well that you can’t imagine them with anyone else, and I’m sure they’re ‘the one’. But I’m sure it’s also about timing and when you’re ready, and if you let the one go by because you weren’t ready, then they’re not ‘the one’ anyway.
You’re always linked with your co-star, Michael Vartan, on Alias. Are you still seeing each other?
I can’t answer that!
But all the girls in Australia would love to know if ‘Vaughn’s’ good kisser!
(bursting out laughing)…I still can’t answer that!
What qualities do you look for in a guy?
I love a guy to be funny, and I love to see a man be kind to people he doesn’t need to be to. You can tell a lot about a guy by the way he treats his Mum, the waitress who’s kept his hamburger waiting, or when he bumps into someone on the sidewalk. Doe he laugh it off or get edgy? I look at all that stuff!
What are you passionate about?
My family and women in general. I’m all about the girls. I don’t feel threatened by women; I want them to do really well. Australian actress Melissa George, the most fabulous person ever, came onto the show, Alias, this year and I just love her! I never feel competitive with women ever. I always want them to have the best; as in Melissa’s case, I wanted her to have the best storylines and clothes. I wish we had so much more to do together, because she’s so fabulous.
What’s your attitude to your success? What have you learned?
I learned a tonne about myself; I’m stronger than I thought I was but also I didn’t realise how hard it was for me to say what I wanted or needed, so I spent the past couple of years learning how not to be the good girl all the time, and occasionally say ‘I’m a good girl, but I really need a day off…’ I’ve also learned that you don’t really change, but people around you can, and you have to be strong about it, and make sure people around you still treat you like you. It’s not my family or my girlfriends, but people I don’t know so well.
Is it hard being a celebrity and having your life scrutinized in the public?
I don’t read any of that stuff which helps, and I wasn’t looking to be a celebrity; it just kind of happened because I stopped working on stage, and started working in front of a camera. I never had stars in my eyes about being on magazines. I just take it for what it is; it’s a funny job that has a lot of unbelievable perks and I’m so lucky to get to do it, but at the same time it’s not real life, and I’m very aware of that.
